The New Build Fallacy

There is often a misconception that "smart buildings" are a product of modern construction a plug-and-play result of specifying the right kit during the design phase. While that might be true for a greenfield site, it couldn’t be further from the reality for our existing legacy estates. Applying a new-build mindset to a building with twenty or thirty years of history is a recipe for expensive, siloed, and ultimately underperforming technology.

A heating issue might look like a boiler problem on paper, but it could actually be a legacy control loop conflict or a sensor calibration issue buried in a plant room nobody has checked properly in years.

The true root causes of energy waste often lie in the historical operational culture and the layering of ad-hoc fixes over the decades.  A holistic approach demands an appreciation of these building services as a unified ecosystem, not a collection of individual assets.
